Systemic Family Therapy
in North, North West and Central London

Living as a family means constantly balancing a complex mix of individual needs, life pressures, and changing circumstances. Systemic family therapy explores the unique structure of your family system, how you navigate the natural shift in balance as children grow, how parents coordinate their approach, and how the different generations influence one another, whether you live under one roof or across multiple households.

Rather than focusing on one person as the source of the difficulty, we look at how the family unit as a whole can adapt to the emotional, practical, or cultural demands impacting it. Our work is about finding a collective rhythm that supports the changing needs of your family. Whether that means navigating the growing independence of children and teenagers, or r eshaping boundaries and communication with adult children, all while keeping the family connected, stable, and secure.

Specialist Experience with
Children & Teenagers (Ages 0–18)

Effectively supporting families requires an advanced understanding of child development and systemic youth mental health. I bring over 20 years of clinical experience working directly with children, young people, and their families across the entire 0–18 age range (including pre-birth) tailoring my approach to meet them exactly where they are developmentally:

• Pre-birth and Perinatal: Supporting expectant parents as they prepare for the systemic transition into parenthood, exploring changes to family dynamics, and laying the groundwork for early bonding and attachment.

• Early Years and Infancy (0–5): Focusing on building secure bonds, helping parents decode the behaviour of very young children, and finding ways to navigate early parenting challenges.

• School-Age Children (6–12): Using drawing, play, and creative activities so younger children can share their feelings without feeling put on the spot or pressured to find the "right" words.

• Adolescents and Young Adults (13–18): Creating a respectful space that values their need for independence and identity, while helping them stay constructively connected to the family.

Therapy for All Family Configurations

Family therapy is not limited to young families or those with young children. The relationships we share with our relatives continue to evolve throughout our lives, bringing new complexities in adulthood.

Family Therapy offers an equally valuable for space adult children and their parents, adult siblings, or indeed any configuration of people you consider to be your family. Whether you are looking to repair a historical rift, navigate a change in family structure, or establish healthier boundaries as adults, we can work together to reshape how you relate to one another.

Exploring Patterns and Shaping New Ways Forward

Our sessions will look at the daily interactions that keep you feeling stuck, while also making room for everyone's individual voice. This often includes:

• Improving Communication and Untangling Loops: Looking at the ripple effect of how you react to one another, helping you step out of repetitive arguments, breakdown communication barriers, and find calmer ways to connect.

• Navigating Big Transitions and Step-Families: Supporting families through major structural adjustments, such as co-parenting after separation, blending step-families, fostering, or adapting to new family setups.

• Processing Grief and Loss: Providing a structured, supportive space for the entire family system to process the profound impact of bereavement, illness, or significant life changes together.

• Supporting Additional Needs and Disabilities: Helping families adapt and thrive when a child or parent has a disability, neurodivergence, or additional physical or emotional needs, ensuring the system supports everyone's well-being. We will work together to maximise participation for everyone in the family.

• Sharing Different Perspectives: Creating a safe space where everyone can share how they see the family's situation, helping to clear up misunderstandings and rewrite old, unhelpful labels.

Our goals in this process are built entirely in partnership with you. We will work collaboratively to ensure every family member feels their voice is valued as we shape a supportive family culture together.

Structure and Practicalities

Sessions are held strictly in person. When there are multiple voices, generations, and moving parts in a family system, being physically present in the same room is essential. It allows us to safely map out and navigate the shared space together, ensuring that every family member, no matter their age, feels fully seen, heard, and included.

• The Shared Initial Consultation: A no fee, collaborative, low-pressure conversation where we map out your current family landscape, explore what each member hopes to achieve, and assess how it feels to work together. It is an opportunity for all parties to ensure the fit is right. If it is not possible or practical to have every family member present for this first session, please book an initial consultation for us to discuss the best approach for your family.

• Format: In-person sessions in North / North West / Central London, bringing together the relevant family members or configurations depending on the focus of our work.

• Pacing: We will decide together whether weekly or fortnightly sessions provide the right amount of containment and emotional breathing room for your family's current circumstances.
